BLUE EARED-PHEASANT

This is another great favorite with pheasant aviculturists and is, like all the eared-pheasants, a most striking bird. It is the most common of this genus in captivity and is thought to be fairly abundant in the wild.

The range of the Blue Eared-Pheasant borders on that of the White Eared-Pheasant in extreme northern Sichuan, from where it extends northward into Gansu and westward into Tibet. This pheasant lives in high-altitude forests. It was the last of the eared-pheasants to come into captivity from China. The first recorded birds were sent to Cleres, France in 1929.
